The opening of our 2019 exhibition ~ Then and Now

Pauline Ingham, who recently stepped down as secretary of the museum, opened our 2019 exhibition ~ Then and Now, on Saturday 27th April in front of a gathering of family and friends.

It was wonderful to see so many enjoying the comparisons in the photographs; the memories and stories they evoked from residents who have lived their whole lives in the village and from the younger guests, the awe and wonder.

Several of the 'then' photographs were taken by Fred Hawke, a well-known photographer who lived in Hallaton all his life. Fred was the post-master and ran the village post-office, he toured round the villages close to Hallaton on his motorbike taking photographs of village life in the early 1900s up to the 1960s.
